Finding Faith: Wolfgang Van Halen's Spiritual Journey After the Loss of Eddie Van Halen

Wolfgang Van Halen opens up about how the death of his father, Eddie Van Halen, impacted his spirituality. The loss of his father created a void in him, leading to a struggle with his spiritual beliefs. Wolfgang shares that he used to feel a special connection with his father, but after his passing, he no longer feels that presence, causing him to question his spirituality.
Reflecting on the afterlife, Wolfgang expresses that while it is comforting to believe in a connection beyond death, the reality of losing someone close can challenge those beliefs. Eddie Van Halen passed away in October 2020 at the age of 65 after battling throat cancer. Wolfgang, along with Eddie's wife Janie and ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli, were by his side during his final moments.
Wolfgang fondly recalls one of his last memories with his father, taking him to a Tool concert in 2019. He shares how Eddie appreciated the music and humorously commented on the musicians' skills. Wolfgang joined Van Halen in 2006 and later formed his own band, Mammoth, releasing their third album, The End, recently.
Despite his musical legacy, Wolfgang admits that he struggles to listen to Van Halen's music after his father's passing. He rarely performs their songs in public, fearing the pressure and expectations associated with playing his father's iconic music. However, he made a special tribute performance at a concert honoring late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022.
Mammoth is currently on tour in North America, with upcoming performances at the Agora Theater & Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Download festival in the UK.
