Introducing Roller Derby to Cochrane: Join the Excitement with Jess Tartaglia
Jess Tartaglia is excited to bring roller derby to Cochrane. Having played since 2018 in Toronto and Oshawa under the name Zuul, Destroyer of Shins, she is eager to introduce the sport to the community. Roller derby has evolved into a strategic game with specific rules, different from the televised version of the past. In roller derby, teams consist of five players – four blockers and a jammer – who skate around the track. Points are scored when the jammer passes opposing blockers. Tartaglia has created a Facebook group called Cochrane Ontario Roller Derby to provide more information about the sport and attract interested individuals. She hopes to engage people from Timmins and surrounding areas like Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls to join the roller derby community in Cochrane.
