Inclusive Basketball Event: AIC Partners with CHD for Accessible Sports Experience

AIC hosted an inclusive basketball event in partnership with the Center for Human Development's 'All In Barrier-Free Recreation Program.' The event aimed to provide individuals of all abilities with the opportunity to learn basketball skills alongside AIC athletes. Participants engaged in shooting, dribbling, and passing drills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

The event, which had a successful turnout in October, was held for the second time to promote inclusivity and accessibility in sports. Participants included wheelchair users and stand-up players of varying ability levels, highlighting the importance of creating a space where everyone can enjoy the game of basketball.

The goal of the event was to showcase that basketball is a sport for everyone, regardless of their background or abilities. AIC athletes served as coaches and mentors, offering guidance and support to participants. The event emphasized the importance of representation and providing a platform for individuals to showcase their talents.

Organizers plan to host more inclusive clinics in the future to continue promoting accessibility and inclusion in sports. The next event, adaptive rock climbing, is scheduled for December 1st at the Central Rock Gym in Hadley. These initiatives aim to create opportunities for individuals of all abilities to participate in recreational activities and experience the joy of sports.
