Carolina Hurricanes Defenseman Charles Alexis Legault Undergoes Surgery for Hand Injury

The Carolina Hurricanes announced that defenseman Charles Alexis Legault underwent surgery to repair torn extensor tendons on his right hand after suffering a skate laceration during a game in Toronto. Dr. Harrison Tuttle at Raleigh Orthopaedic performed the procedure, and Legault is expected to be out for three to four months. The team has placed him on injured reserve.

Legault, 22, has played eight games this season with the Hurricanes, recording two points and a plus-4 rating. He made his NHL debut in October and scored his first NHL goal recently. The Quebec native also played two AHL games with Chicago this season. Legault had a successful first professional season in 2024-25 with the Wolves, tallying 14 points in 63 games. He was drafted by the Hurricanes in the fifth round of the 2023 NHL Draft and played college hockey at Quinnipiac, winning the NCAA National Championship in 2023.

The Hurricanes expressed gratitude to the Toronto Maple Leafs medical staff for their prompt assistance after Legault's injury. The team will miss his presence on the ice but looks forward to his return after a successful recovery from surgery.
