Legal Battle Over Sound N' Fury: Guns N' Roses vs. Alan Niven

Alan Niven, the former manager of Guns N’ Roses, is taking legal action against the band to release his autobiography, titled Sound N’ Fury: Rock N’ Roll Stories. The lawsuit alleges that Guns N’ Roses have threatened Niven over the publication of the book, which has already been printed by ECW Press but is currently stuck in a warehouse. Niven claims that at least one band member encouraged him to write the book, despite the band invoking a confidentiality clause from a 1991 agreement.
The lawsuit filed by Niven accuses Guns N’ Roses of blocking the publication of Sound N’ Fury by invoking the confidentiality clause in the 1991 buyout agreement. Despite the band's threats, Niven argues that the agreement was not signed by all members of the band, and some members have publicly commented on Niven and even encouraged him to write the book. The delay in the book's release has caused frustration, especially after receiving positive reviews and preorders.
According to the lawsuit, Guns N’ Roses is a California partnership consisting of W. Axl Rose, Saul Hudson (Slash), and Michael “Duff” McKagan. Niven is seeking a declaratory judgment of non-enforceability of the contract, a declaratory judgment of non-breach of contract, and damages for tortious interference with contract or business expectancy. Niven managed Guns N’ Roses from 1985 to 1991 and has also worked with other notable bands like Sex Pistols, Great White, and Nikki Sixx.
Sound N’ Fury: Rock N’ Roll Stories is currently available for pre-order on Amazon, with a release date of March 31st, 2026, but its availability may be affected by the outcome of the lawsuit. The cover artwork for the book can be viewed on the pre-order page. The legal battle between Alan Niven and Guns N’ Roses continues as Niven seeks to share his rock 'n' roll stories with the world.
