Timothée Chalamet and Anthony Edwards Discuss Remaking 'Training Day': A Hollywood Collaboration in the Making?

Timothée Chalamet, known for his roles in acclaimed films like "Call Me By Your Name" and "Dune," has been making waves in Hollywood. His portrayal of Bob Dylan in the biopic "A Complete Unknown" earned him a second Academy Award nomination in 2024. NBA player Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves suggested that Chalamet should consider directing, with Edwards offering to star in his debut film. Surprisingly, Chalamet proposed remaking the iconic film "Training Day," with Edwards in the lead role.

"Training Day," a 2001 thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua, starred Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. The film follows veteran LAPD officer Alonzo Harris (Washington) as he evaluates rookie officer Jake Hoyt (Hawke) during a 12-hour shift. Chalamet's interest in remaking the film comes at a time when discussions about police corruption are prevalent. Chalamet envisions Edwards as Harris and himself as Hoyt, a role originally played by Hawke.

Despite not being a blockbuster, "Training Day" achieved critical acclaim for its portrayal of police life in Los Angeles and the ethical dilemmas faced by law enforcement. While a sequel movie was never made, a TV spin-off featuring Bill Paxton and Justin Cornwell continued the story. Plans for a prequel film set during the 1992 L.A. Riots were announced in 2019, with the title "Training Day: Day of the Riot." However, updates on the project have been scarce.

With a potential sequel in the works and Chalamet and Edwards expressing interest in a remake, the possibility of Edwards portraying a younger Alonzo Harris in a new adaptation of "Training Day" remains uncertain. Only time will reveal if this collaboration comes to fruition.
