Blumhouse has secured the adaptation rights to the popular comic book series Something is Killing the Children after Netflix decided not to proceed with the project. The comic book, created by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera, has garnered significant success in the horror genre, with over 5 million copies sold globally and multiple Eisner Awards to its name.
Blumhouse announced their plans to develop both a movie and an adult animated series based on Something is Killing the Children. Founder Jason Blum expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming adaptations, highlighting the series' ability to tap into primal fears and introduce a compelling heroine, Erica Slaughter, who battles monsters in a captivating world.
The ongoing comic book series, launched in September 2019 by BOOM! Studios, follows the story of Erica Slaughter, a monster hunter dedicated to protecting children from supernatural threats. Initially, Netflix had intended to adapt the series with Trevor Macy and Mike Flanagan as writers and executive producers, but the project was shelved when the streaming platform opted for a different direction.
With Blumhouse now at the helm of the adaptations, fans can anticipate the revival of hopes for a movie and an animated series based on Something is Killing the Children. While specific release details are yet to be announced, Stephen Christy, James Tynion IV, and Werther Dell'Edera will serve as producers for the movie, with Jason Blum as the producer and Shaun Sutton and Ryan Turek as executive producers.
