Greg Ridley: A Musical Journey with Spooky Tooth and Humble Pie

Greg Ridley had a successful music career that began in the late 1960s. He co-founded bands like Spooky Tooth and Humble Pie before the age of 22. Born in Aspatria in Cumberland, Greg started his musical journey in northern bands like the V.I.P.’s and the Ramrods. Island Records signed Spooky Tooth, and they released two albums, "It’s All About" and "Spooky Too." In 1969, Greg joined Humble Pie with Steve Marriott, Jerry Shirley, and Peter Frampton. The band released two albums, "As Safe As Yesterday Is" and "Town and Country," and had a hit single with "Natural Born Bugie."

Humble Pie's rock music found more success in the U.S. than in the UK. Their live album "Performance – Rockin’ The Fillmore" and studio album "Smokin’" both went gold in America. Despite Frampton's departure, the band continued to tour extensively in the U.S. before disbanding in 1975. Spooky Tooth reformed in 1973, and Greg Ridley remained a key member of the band. He also collaborated with Steve Marriott on an unreleased album and briefly worked with other bands before leaving the music industry. In 2001, Greg participated in a tribute concert for Marriott in London. He passed away in 2003 in Alicante due to pneumonia and related complications, leaving behind a legacy in two influential British bands.
