DCU Fans Will Have to Wait: Darkseid's Theatrical Debut Delayed, According to James Gunn

DCU enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Darkseid, but according to James Gunn, they may have to wait a bit longer. The veteran filmmaker recently discussed the debut of DC's Darkseid, confirming that the villain won't be appearing on the big screen anytime soon. Gunn shared insights on the similarities between the DCU's Salvation planet arc and its comic book counterpart, hinting that fans shouldn't expect too much.

In the DC comics, Darkseid's right-hand man, DeSaad, uses Planet Salvation as a training ground for his army of parademons. While the introduction of Planet Salvation sparked speculation about Darkseid's arrival, Gunn clarified that he is only exploring the concept of Salvation. Gunn expressed his interest in supervillains creating a society in another dimension and praised the practical approach of Amanda Waller and Rick Flag Jr. in dealing with meta-humans who escape from prison.

Gunn elaborated on why Darkseid may not be the best choice as the primary antagonist in the DCU at the moment, highlighting similarities between Darkseid and Marvel's Thanos. He mentioned that Zack Snyder had already portrayed Darkseid in a cool way and that Thanos had been a significant villain in the Marvel universe. Therefore, the timing may not be right to introduce Darkseid as the main villain in the DCU.

As a result, the timeline for Darkseid's first theatrical appearance in the DC universe remains uncertain. Fans will have to wait patiently to see the iconic villain make his mark on the big screen.
