Controversial Officiating and Injuries Plague Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Loss to Lions

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a 24-9 defeat at the hands of the Lions, ending their two-game winning streak. The focus postgame shifted to the officiating controversy, with quarterback Baker Mayfield confronting a referee during the game. Mayfield expressed his frustration with the calls made during the game, citing a defensive holding call and a double review as questionable decisions that impacted the outcome.

One of the contentious moments in the game involved a review of a catch by Tampa Bay tight end Cade Otton, which was initially ruled a completion but later overturned after a challenge from the Lions. This decision gave possession to the Lions and also restored a timeout for them. Another disputed call was an interception ruling against the Bucs earlier in the game.

Despite the officiating issues, the Bucs struggled to contain the Lions' running game, with Jahmyr Gibbs rushing for 136 yards and two touchdowns. In contrast, Tampa Bay only managed 41 rushing yards in the game. Star wide receiver Mike Evans suffered a broken clavicle during the game and will likely miss the rest of the season. The Bucs will face the New Orleans Saints next in a matchup of NFC South rivals.
