Amazon Prime Video Cancels 'Countdown' and 'Butterfly' After One Season: A Look at the Critic Reviews and Fan Reactions

Amazon Prime Video has decided to cancel the shows "Countdown" and "Butterfly" after just one season each. These two new dramas, starring Jensen Ackles and Daniel Dae Kim, were produced by Amazon MGM Studios and made it to Nielsen's top 10 streaming originals chart. "Countdown," created by Derek Haas, revolves around an LAPD detective who joins an undercover task force to solve the murder of a Department of Homeland Security officer, uncovering a dark conspiracy in the process. On the other hand, "Butterfly," created by Steph Cha and Ken Woodruff, follows a former U.S. intelligence agent whose past choices come back to haunt him and his family.

Despite the potential of the shows, they failed to impress critics. Variety's chief TV critic, Aramide Tinubu, criticized "Countdown" for being monotonous and lacking compelling characters and storylines. Tinubu also had negative feedback for "Butterfly," stating that while it had the elements of a thrilling series, it fell short in delivering gritty character-driven content. The cancellation of both shows comes as a disappointment to fans who were hoping for more from these promising dramas.
