Operation Wild Wheels: Lee County Sheriff's Crackdown on Reckless Driving and Street Takeovers
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has initiated Operation Wild Wheels, a comprehensive effort to crack down on reckless driving, illegal ATV use, and street takeovers in the county. Concerns from Lehigh Acres residents about speeding and racing have led to the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy for unsafe driving practices. The sheriff’s office is concentrating its efforts on the eastern part of the county, where most complaints have been lodged. Operation Wild Wheels has already resulted in 166 traffic stops, 72 citations, over 120 warnings, and seven arrests for various offenses, including DUI, excessive speeding, and driving without a license. Among those arrested are Mateo Castaneda Ignacio, Frankin Borja-Montoya, Antonia Thomas Jr., Steven Manuel, Dylan Weisend, Gabriel Salcedo, and Aaron Munson. Aerial surveillance is being utilized by the sheriff’s office to identify reckless drivers and coordinate ground units. The operation will be ongoing, with patrols conducted both during the day and at night to ensure the safety of local roads. Residents are urged to report any instances of dangerous driving directly to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
