FIFA President Gianni Infantino has emphasized the need for flexibility in scheduling future World Cup tournaments, beyond just the 2034 event in Saudi Arabia. The international football calendar is set until 2030, with discussions ongoing for the years following. Traditionally, World Cups have been held in June and July, except for the 2022 tournament in Qatar, which took place in November and December to avoid extreme heat. Infantino highlighted the impact of climate change on scheduling and suggested considering alternative months for future tournaments.

During the European Football Clubs General Assembly in Rome, Infantino discussed the possibility of playing World Cups in March or October to accommodate different climates worldwide. He acknowledged the challenges of scheduling matches in extreme weather conditions and emphasized the importance of exploring options to optimize the calendar. Infantino also hinted at expanding the Club World Cup to 48 teams, following the success of the 32-team competition held in the United States.

The potential expansion of the Club World Cup has faced criticism from domestic leagues and player unions, who argue that FIFA has not adequately consulted stakeholders on the international fixture calendar. Infantino's remarks indicate a willingness to enhance the tournament and address concerns raised by various football organizations.
