Synagogue Attack in Crumpsall: Security Camera Footage Reveals Moments Leading Up to the Tragic Incident

Security camera footage has surfaced showing the moments leading up to the synagogue attack carried out by Jihad Al-Shamie. Al-Shamie drove his vehicle into worshippers outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Crumpsall, where he proceeded to attack them with a knife. He was fatally shot by armed police during the incident. The attack resulted in the deaths of two Jewish men, Melvin Cravitz, 66, and Adrian Daulby, 53, on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
Counter Terror Police reported that Al-Shamie was observed behaving suspiciously outside the synagogue before being confronted by security personnel and walking away. He returned 15 minutes later in a vehicle to carry out the attack, which was first reported to the police at 9:31 am. Security camera footage from a nearby street captured a man matching Al-Shamie's description walking away from the synagogue at 9:22 am, wearing a brown coat and black backpack. The same camera recorded a black Kia Picanto, the vehicle driven by Al-Shamie, driving back towards the synagogue at 9:26 am.
Residents in the vicinity mentioned that police officers had visited their homes on the day of the attack, inquiring about any doorbell or CCTV footage showing suspicious behavior around the time of the incident. The investigation into the attack is being conducted by Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW). Authorities stated that Al-Shamie, a 35-year-old individual residing in Prestwich who was previously arrested for an alleged rape and was on bail, may have been influenced by extreme Islamist ideology. The full circumstances of the attack are expected to take some time to establish.
CTPNW provided an update indicating that warrants of further detention had been granted to question four individuals who were arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation, and instigation of acts of terrorism in connection with the attack. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the authorities delve deeper into the case.
