Former Uvalde CISD Officer Adrian Gonzales Trial Update: Scheduled Trial in Corpus Christi, Texas
The trial for former Uvalde CISD officer Adrian Gonzales, who is facing charges related to the Robb Elementary School shooting, is scheduled to take place in Corpus Christi, Texas next year. A grand jury has indicted Gonzales on 29 counts of endangering a child in connection with the tragic incident where 19 children and two teachers lost their lives. The trial is set to commence on January 5, as confirmed by his attorney, Nico LaHood, who expressed readiness to defend Gonzales against the allegations.
Gonzales' legal team had requested a change of venue for the trial, citing concerns about the impact of the shooting on the local community potentially influencing the jury's decision in Uvalde County. The district attorney did not oppose the request, leading to the trial being moved to Corpus Christi. The hearing that was initially scheduled for October 14 in Uvalde County has been canceled as preparations for the trial are underway.
In addition to Gonzales, former UCISD police Chief Pete Arredondo is also facing charges in connection with the school shooting response. Arredondo has pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of child endangerment. The legal proceedings for Arredondo are currently on hold pending the resolution of a lawsuit between the Uvalde County district attorney's office and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The district attorney is seeking cooperation from Border Patrol agents in the investigation, which CBP has reportedly refused to allow.
Both Gonzales and Arredondo maintain their innocence and have pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them. The legal developments in these cases continue to unfold, and more updates can be found on the KSAT Investigates page.
