David Lee Appointed President of Soccer Operations and General Manager at Sporting Kansas City

Sporting Kansas City has appointed David Lee as the club’s President of Soccer Operations and General Manager, signing a seven-year contract through 2032. Lee will oversee all aspects of Sporting’s soccer enterprise, including roster management, player recruitment, scouting, analytics, technical staff oversight, and the development of Sporting KC II and the Sporting KC Academy. He will report directly to the ownership group and work alongside Sporting Director Mike Burns and interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin.

Co-Principal Owner Michael Illig expressed confidence in Lee's appointment, highlighting his global experience and leadership qualities. Lee, who previously served as Sporting Director at New York City FC, brings a wealth of MLS experience to his new role. During his tenure at NYCFC, the club achieved significant success, winning the 2021 MLS Cup and 2022 Campeones Cup, and making multiple playoff appearances.

Lee's track record at NYCFC includes signing numerous Homegrown Players and overseeing the club's soccer infrastructure across various levels. His expertise in player recruitment and development has been instrumental in NYCFC's success in MLS and beyond. Lee's career in Major League Soccer began in 2011 with the New York Red Bulls before joining NYCFC in 2014.
