Iconic Rock Legend Tina Turner Honored with Three-Meter Statue Unveiling in Brownsville, Tennessee

A new three-meter statue of iconic rock n' roll legend Tina Turner has been unveiled in Brownsville, Tennessee, the rural community where she spent her childhood. The statue, designed by sculptor Fred Ajanogha, captures Turner's dynamic stage presence, featuring her distinctive wild hair and holding a microphone as if performing. Turner, known for hits like Nutbush City Limits and Proud Mary, passed away in 2023 at the age of 83 in Switzerland.
The unveiling of the statue took place during the 10th-annual Tina Turner Heritage Days, a celebration of her early life in Tennessee. The statue, made of bronze, was a year-long project funded by around 50 donors, including a $US150,000 donation from Ford. It now stands near the Tina Turner Museum at the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Centre in Brownsville, housed in the renovated Flagg Grove School where Turner once attended classes.
Tina Turner's illustrious career spanned decades, from her early collaborations with husband Ike Turner to her solo success with hits like What's Love Got To Do With It. The statue serves as a tribute to her enduring legacy and influence in the music industry, commemorating her roots in the small town of Nutbush, Tennessee.
