The Summer I Turned Pretty: Prime Video Movie Announcement and Updates
The Summer I Turned Pretty book series by Jenny Han has been adapted into a popular Prime Video show that follows the love triangle between Belly and the Fisher brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah. The show's three seasons were inspired by the books It’s Not Summer Without You and We’ll Always Have Summer. Despite expectations that the series would end after season 3, a surprise movie was announced by Prime Video to wrap up the story.
The movie will feature Lola Tung and Chris Briney reprising their roles, along with Gavin Casalegno returning as Jeremiah. Other cast members are also expected to return for the movie. The full-feature film will be released by Prime Video, and Jenny Han has confirmed that a draft of the movie has been completed, although the release date is still uncertain.
The movie will continue Belly's journey, with Han expressing gratitude to Prime Video for supporting her vision for the story. The show's ending drew inspiration from Han's book We’ll Always Have Summer, with Belly and Conrad returning to Cousins Beach as a couple. Some fans were disappointed by the lack of an epilogue showing Belly and Conrad getting married.
While there were hints of plans for The Summer I Turned Pretty to expand beyond the books, a spinoff is no longer in the works. Jenny Han has focused on getting the seasons right and has presented new ideas related to the series. Prime Video is looking forward to continuing to work with Han on future projects based on her vision.
