14th Annual Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer Tournament Raises $3.2 Million for Cancer Research

Over 1,500 road hockey enthusiasts gathered for the 14th annual Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer tournament, raising an impressive $3.2 million for cancer research. The event brought together players of all levels, from NHL veterans to newcomers, all united in their mission to support cancer research. This year's tournament set a new fundraising record, surpassing $3.2 million.
The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation's VP of Corporate and Community Partnerships, Steve Merker, expressed pride in the event's success, highlighting the impact of the funds raised on cancer research. Since its inception in 2011, the tournament has raised a total of $36 million, contributing significantly to advancing cancer research at The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
Former NHL player Carlo Colaiacovo, a seven-year participant in the tournament, shared his personal connection to the cause, citing his son Leo's cancer battle as a driving force behind his involvement. Despite the competitive nature of the games, Colaiacovo emphasized the spirit of unity and camaraderie among participants, who come together as one team to support the fight against cancer.
With over 145 teams from the region taking part in this year's tournament, players like Brad Noddle shared their personal motivations for participating, such as honoring loved ones affected by cancer. Noddle highlighted the collective effort of all participants in working towards a common goal of eradicating cancer in their lifetime.
Looking ahead, organizers are already planning for next year's tournament, with 145 teams already registered to participate. In the meantime, donations for cancer research are accepted year-round, ensuring ongoing support for vital research initiatives.
