Arctic Tales: Whatever Pictures' Bold Vision for Film and TV Production

A new film and TV production company, Whatever Pictures, has been formed through the merger of Finland's Whatevergroup and Mutant Koala Pictures. The company, based in Oulu, aims to create original productions, co-productions, and provide production services and post-production coordination. Drawing inspiration from the extreme environments of the Arctic, Whatever Pictures will infuse their narratives with tension, resilience, and unexpected humor.
The merger between Whatevergroup and Mutant Koala Pictures will allow the companies to tackle new challenges in Finland's funding landscape and work together as strong partners. Both entities will continue to operate as sub-labels under Whatever Pictures, focusing on excellent writing and developing compelling stories for global audiences.
Whatever Pictures' upcoming projects include a European co-production titled "Torna a Surriento," which follows a Neapolitan hustler navigating life in Finnish Lapland. Additionally, an action thriller called "Transporter," set in northern Finland, will explore the high-stakes scenario of a hijacked donor heart during transport. These projects will be showcased at the Finnish Film Affair in Helsinki.
CEO Antti Kaarlela emphasized the company's blend of grit and ambition, highlighting the unique storytelling opportunities presented by the Arctic environment. Creative producer Jukka Vidgren expressed the team's dedication to creating engaging stories that resonate with audiences worldwide. The team, including Antti Kairakari, Pia Ervasti, Aleksi Puranen, and Petteri Staven, is committed to leveraging their expertise and the distinctive qualities of the North to craft compelling narratives.
