Injury Updates: Cleveland Cavaliers' Darius Garland and Max Strus Face Setbacks Ahead of Regular Season

Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland will be limited in basketball activities during training camp and is likely to miss the beginning of the regular season due to a toe injury that required surgery. Despite his absence, the team is optimistic about his progress and conditioning during the offseason. President of basketball operations Koby Altman praised Garland's dedication to strength training and positive attitude, emphasizing the importance of gradually increasing his conditioning level.
Garland, a key player for the Cavaliers, averaged 20.6 points and 6.7 assists in the regular season but missed crucial games towards the end of the season and during the playoffs due to his injury. With Garland sidelined, the team may rely on Donovan Mitchell at point guard and Lonzo Ball, acquired from the Chicago Bulls, to fill the void. Coach Kenny Atkinson expressed confidence in Ball's fit with the team's style of play and potential impact.
In addition to Garland, forward Max Strus is also expected to miss the early part of the regular season following foot surgery. The Cavaliers will assess Strus' timeline for return after a week of training camp at IMG Academy. DeAndre Hunter, acquired by the team last season, is poised to step up and take on a more significant role in Strus' absence. The team is hopeful that both Garland and Strus will recover fully and contribute to their success on the court.
