The original single, released in 1975, featured "Trampled Underfoot" on the A-side and "Black Country Woman" on the B-side. It was distributed to record stores as a promotional item for Led Zeppelin's album Physical Graffiti, with a black sleeve labeled "Special Limited Edition."
