FDA Issues Sixth Recall Notice for Contaminated Shrimp Products Nationwide

The FDA has issued a warning about contaminated shrimp in a recall notice, marking the sixth recall since August. The products were distributed nationwide. Initially, certain shrimp products were removed from shelves due to concerns about contamination with cesium-137, a radioactive isotope. Subsequently, more shrimp products were recalled for the same reason. The FDA has now expanded the recall list of potentially contaminated shrimp products, with Aqua Star (USA) Corp. of Seattle conducting the recall. Cs-137 is a radioactive isotope that can have adverse health effects if ingested in larger amounts. The latest recall includes three specific shrimp products sold between June 12 and September 17. Consumers are advised not to consume the recalled products and to return them to the place of purchase or dispose of them properly. The FDA has issued a total of six recall notices related to potentially contaminated shrimp in the past five weeks, but no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products.
