Palma's Paseo Marítimo Charity Race: Unveiling the Revamped Promenade with a Purpose

Palma’s Paseo Marítimo is set to be officially unveiled in November with a charity race marking the occasion. The promenade is mostly open to the public, but the formal inauguration will take place on November 15th and 16th. The event will feature a race through port zones that are typically off-limits, emphasizing the idea of "opening the port to the city". The Port Authority has confirmed that remaining works, such as the completion of Santo Domingo square and the Mediterranean walkway clearance, will be finished by early November.
The festivities will kick off on Saturday, November 15th with various sporting activities, leading up to the main race on Sunday. Santo Domingo de la Calzada square will host an exhibitors' fair and serve as the operational center for the weekend. Participants can register for the 10-kilometre race for 10 euros, with proceeds benefiting Projecte Home Balears, a charity supporting over 1,000 individuals. The charity's president, Jesús Mullor, expressed gratitude for the support and highlighted the importance of healthy leisure activities in addiction recovery.
The 10-kilometre race will start from Santo Domingo square, pass through Portopi, and navigate the Ponent-Paraires docks. Port Authority director Toni Ginard noted that this event marks the first time a race has been allowed in controlled port areas typically restricted to staff and passengers. In addition to the main race, there will be a 4-kilometre adult race, children's contests, and a leisurely fun walk. Race packs can be collected the day before the event at Santo Domingo square, where free stretching, yoga, salsa, swing, zumba sessions, and more will be offered on Saturday.
Port Authority president Javier Sanz acknowledged the challenges faced during the construction phase and explained the decision to postpone the event from the original October 5th date due to unfinished works affecting the race course. Registration for all races is currently open, and organizers anticipate a strong turnout from the public.
In conclusion, the official unveiling of Palma’s revamped Paseo Marítimo in November will be celebrated with a charity race that promises to bring the community together for a weekend of sporting activities and festivities. The event will not only showcase the newly renovated promenade but also support a charitable cause, emphasizing the importance of healthy leisure pursuits in the community.
