Finding Solace in Loss: Adekunle Gold's Journey with 'Simile

Adekunle Gold, a Nigerian singer and songwriter, recently shared that he submitted a song he wrote for Beyoncé's 'The Lion King: The Gift' album project. He revealed that he penned the track during a difficult period following his father's passing in 2019. Despite his grief, Adekunle managed to create the song 'Simile' and sent it to Beyoncé's team for consideration.

Although Adekunle Gold hoped that 'Simile' would not be chosen for the album, his wish came true as the song did not make it to the final selection. This decision left only a few Nigerian artists like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Tekno, and Mr Eazi featured on the album. Adekunle has since included 'Simile' on his latest album 'Fuji,' aiming to offer solace to listeners coping with loss or grief.

The singer reflected on the significance of 'Simile,' emphasizing that it resurfaced in 2024 during a studio session with his collaborator Michael. This experience reminded him that even in moments of profound loss, he found solace in his faith. Adekunle highlighted that grief takes various forms, whether it's the loss of a loved one, a friendship, a dream, or a part of oneself, and emphasized the importance of not facing it alone.
