This weekend, Savannah will host the Georgia Blind Sports Association's Youth Goalball Invitational, bringing together nearly 100 athletes from across the country. Goalball is a Paralympic sport specifically designed for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. The game is played indoors with three players on each team, all wearing eye shades to ensure fairness. Athletes rely on their sense of hearing to track the ball, which contains bells. The objective is to score by throwing the ball into the opponent's net while defenders use their bodies to block shots. The event will feature 16 teams competing throughout the weekend, including two local athletes from Savannah.
