Bob Dylan to Headline Farm Aid 40 in Minneapolis: A Celebration of Music and Farming

Minnesota music legend Bob Dylan will be headlining the 40th edition of Farm Aid at Minneapolis' Huntington Bank Stadium this Saturday. The festival, which Dylan helped inspire, will feature a lineup of renowned artists such as Willie Nelson, Wynonna Judd, Neil Young, Kenny Chesney, and more. Dylan's call to support farmers during the Live Aid concert in 1985 led Nelson to establish Farm Aid the same year.

Born as Robert Zimmerman in Duluth, Dylan's roots in Minnesota shaped his musical journey. He began his career in folk music while studying at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis before moving to New York City in 1961. Despite initial concerns due to a labor dispute between the University of Minnesota and its Teamster service employees, Farm Aid 40 is set to take place at Huntington Bank Stadium.

Following negotiations between Teamsters Local 320 and the university, Farm Aid's production crew, who are unionized, will be able to proceed with the event. With Gov. Tim Walz's support, Nelson expressed gratitude for the understanding of the situation and emphasized the importance of the university's cooperation for the success of Farm Aid 40.

Since its inception at the University of Illinois, Farm Aid has raised over $85 million to support American farmers. In addition to the main festival, a pre-event called Rissi Palmer's Color Me Country Takeover will be held at Fine Line in downtown Minneapolis on Thursday night. This event celebrates the contributions of diverse artists and farmers, highlighting their legacy in the music industry and agriculture sector.
