World Cup of Hockey 2028 Host City Selection Process Unveiled

The NHLPA and NHL have initiated the request for proposal (RFP) phase for the World Cup of Hockey 2028, with 25 cities competing to host the prestigious international tournament. Following a successful Expression of Interest (EOI) phase, workshops will be held in Toronto and Zurich to brief candidate host cities on the event's vision and requirements. Final host city selections are expected to be announced in Q1 of 2026.

The World Cup of Hockey 2028 is scheduled for February 2028 and will feature an eight-nation tournament with round-robin and elimination games in two host cities. The semifinals and championship game are anticipated to take place in one of the host cities. This edition of the tournament builds on the success of previous events and aims to deliver a unique fan experience with extensive ancillary programming.

The RFP process is managed by Playfly Sports, a sports marketing and media company with expertise in major international events. The World Cup of Hockey 2028 presents an opportunity for host cities to showcase their cultural and economic impact while hosting a globally broadcast celebration of hockey at its highest level.
