Philadelphia Flyers Update: Carter Hart's Departure and Training Camp Schedule
Philadelphia Flyers general manager Danny Briere has confirmed that Carter Hart will not be returning to the team. Hart and his agent expressed a desire for a "fresh start" with the organization. The NHL recently reinstated Hart and four other players after they were acquitted of sexual assault charges from an incident in 2018. Hart, along with Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton, will be eligible to sign contracts on Oct. 15 and play on Dec. 1.
Before the NHL's decision to reinstate Hart, Comcast chairman and Flyers governor Dan Hilferty refrained from commenting on the situation, deferring to the league's authority. Hart last played for the Flyers in January 2024 before leaving the team due to pending charges. The team's new head coach, Rick Tocchet, will oversee the players during training camp, which begins Thursday in Voorhees, New Jersey.
The Flyers have announced a training camp schedule with 57 players in attendance, including forwards, defensemen, and goalies. The camp will feature on-ice and off-ice sessions, with a scrimmage scheduled for Saturday. The team's first preseason game is set for Sunday against the New York Islanders, followed by a home game against the Boston Bruins on Sept. 27 at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
