Growing up in Framingham, Dave Amato started his musical journey playing in high school bands. He later found fame as the lead guitarist of the 1980s rock band REO Speedwagon. After 35 years with the band, REO Speedwagon announced their retirement from touring in September and played their final concert in December due to internal conflicts among band members.

Amato joined REO Speedwagon in 1989 and had previously performed with renowned artists like Ted Nugent, Richie Sambora, and Cher. The band, formed in 1967, achieved commercial success with their breakthrough album "Hi Infidelity" in 1980, featuring hits like "Keep on Loving You" and "Take it on the Run."

In his early years, Amato played in bands like Dave and the Essex and ICE with his friend Tom Brodeur. They covered popular songs of the time and showcased Amato's exceptional vocal abilities. Amato's talent and drive led him to form new bands and eventually move to California to further his music career.

Amato's career took off when he played with artists like Cher, Julian Lennon, and Ted Nugent. He joined REO Speedwagon as their lead guitarist in 1989, bringing his vocal and guitar skills to the band. Despite REO Speedwagon's initial decline in popularity, they experienced a resurgence in the late '90s with successful tours alongside other classic rock bands.

Known for his clean living and love for musical gear, Amato has maintained a successful career in the music industry. He continues to play with his band, now known as the Kevin Cronin Band—The Voice and Songs of REO Speedwagon.
