Ed Sheeran's Musical Journey: From 'Play' to 'Eject' and Beyond

Ed Sheeran has shared his plans for a posthumous album called ‘Eject’, which is already included in his will. His latest studio album, ‘Play’, was released on September 12, following his previous record ‘Autumn Variations’ from 2023. The album features singles like ‘A Little More’, ‘Azizam’, ‘Old Phone’, and ‘Sapphire’.
During an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Sheeran discussed his vision for his upcoming four LPs: ‘Pause’, ‘Fast Forward’, ‘Rewind’, and ‘Stop’. He mentioned that ‘Eject’ would be the album in his will, and his wife Cherry would choose the tracks for it after his passing.
Sheeran explained that ‘Eject’ would be a compilation of songs from his age of 18 until his death, with the best 10 tracks selected for the album. He emphasized the importance of planning the posthumous album and involving his wife in the selection process to ensure it reflects his wishes.
The singer-songwriter also discussed his future albums, including ‘Stop’, which he compared to Jay-Z’s ‘The Black Album’ as a final offering to the world. Sheeran expressed his intention to take his time creating ‘Stop’ and ensure it is crafted with care and attention.
Sheeran’s upcoming albums will follow his mathematical symbol-inspired collection, including ‘Plus’, ‘Multiply’, ‘Divide’, ‘Subtract’, and ‘Equals’. He previously mentioned working on ‘Play’ and ‘Rewind’ simultaneously, with ‘Rewind’ nearing completion.
Fans can expect Sheeran’s next record to be released within the next 18 months. ‘Play’ received a three-star review from NME, describing it as a return to his genre-spanning style and a showcase of his musical versatility.
‘Play’ was created as a response to a challenging period in Sheeran’s life, aiming to bring joy and exploration through music. The album was recorded around the world, with the final touches completed in Goa, India, resulting in a vibrant and creative project.
In addition to his music releases, Ed Sheeran has announced a UK and European arena tour for this winter, including performances in Manchester and Dublin. Fans can look forward to experiencing his new music live on stage.
