Recap of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival: Winners, Surprises, and Exciting Releases

The Venice International Film Festival has concluded its 82nd event, with Jim Jarmusch's "Father Mother Sister Brother" winning the prestigious Golden Lion award. Benny Safdie also received the Silver Lion for Best Director. Other winners include Kaouther Ben Hania for "The Voice of Hind Rajab" and Gianfranco Rosi for "Below the Clouds." Valérie Donzelli and Gilles Marchand won Best Screenplay for "À pied d’œuvre (At Work)." Actors Xin Zhilei and Toni Servillo took home the Volpi Cups for Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively. Luna Welder received the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor.

In his acceptance speech, Jim Jarmusch expressed gratitude for the recognition of his film, emphasizing the learning process of filmmaking. Notable films in competition included Yorgos Lanthimos’ "Bugonia," Guillermo del Toro’s "Frankenstein," and Noah Baumbach’s "Jay Kelly." Despite the buzz around Park Chan-wook’s "No Other Choice," "Father Mother Sister Brother" emerged as a surprise winner.

The post-awards press conference addressed the absence of certain acclaimed films in the final selection, with jury president Alexander Payne acknowledging the love for many films that didn't make the cut. "Father Mother Sister Brother" is set to be released in theaters by Mubi on December 24th. Additionally, Werner Herzog and Kim Novak received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the festival.
