The Runarounds Season Finale: Behind the Scenes of the Iconic 'The Climb' Moment

The first season finale of The Runarounds showcased a memorable moment where the band united by singing Hannah Montana's "The Climb." However, before settling on this iconic song choice, the band members considered other tracks, including TLC's "Waterfalls." The decision to feature "The Climb" was deemed the most fitting for the emotional scene, as creator Jonas Pate assured the cast that it would be phenomenal.
The fictional series, based on a teleplay by Pate and David Wilcox, follows the real band The Runarounds, comprised of William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher. The band was formed in 2021 after responding to a casting call for Outer Banks. The episode was filmed in 2022, coinciding with The Runarounds recording an EP and embarking on a tour.
The band members shared their experience of meeting and working together, with Chase Stokes providing valuable guidance during their first foray into acting. Murdock highlighted the brief crossover with Outer Banks in season 3, emphasizing that it was more of a creative exercise than a serious narrative connection.
In addition to the band, The Runarounds features a talented cast including Brooklyn Decker, Maximo Salas, Marley Aliah, and others. The show also includes cameo appearances by J. Anthony Crane and Cullen Moss in different roles from their characters on Outer Banks.
Yun expressed enthusiasm for the possibility of future crossovers between The Runarounds and Outer Banks characters, hinting at the potential for collaboration as the universes are not currently connected. Fans can look forward to a second season of The Runarounds, as Prime Video has already ordered it, with creator Jonas Pate also working on a prequel to Outer Banks titled Kildare.
While Outer Banks is available for streaming on Netflix, The Runarounds can be enjoyed on Prime Video. The success of the show has paved the way for more exciting developments in the interconnected universe of Figure 8 town.
