A sequel to the upcoming reboot of the classic climbing film, Cliffhanger, is currently in early development. Producers Rocket Science and Thank You Pictures are spearheading the project, although it remains uncertain if the original cast or creatives will return. When they are ambushed by kidnappers during a weekend trip with a billionaire's son, Ray's other daughter Naomi (played by James), who is still haunted by a past climbing incident, witnesses the attack and escapes. To rescue her family, Naomi must confront her fears and fight for survival. James has expressed excitement about the reboot's production process, and the new script is based on a story by Ana Lily Amirpour, with Melanie Toast crafting the latest draft.
The film is set for a theatrical release, potentially including an IMAX component, with Rocket Science managing international sales and CAA Media Finance representing North American and Chinese territories.
