Empowering Teen Drivers: B.R.A.K.E.S. Program Debuts at Richmond Raceway

The B.R.A.K.E.S. program is coming to Richmond Raceway for the first time, providing 200 teenagers and their parents with essential driving safety training. This initiative is made possible through a collaboration with Virginia State Police, the DMV, and the youth safe driving program YOVASO. Founded by former drag race champion Doug Herbert after a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of his sons, Jon and James, the program aims to equip young drivers with the skills to avoid similar incidents. By analyzing common crash scenarios, B.R.A.K.E.S. develops realistic training exercises to enhance driving proficiency.

One crucial scenario covered in the program is the "wheel drop off," where a vehicle drifts off the road, leading to potential over-correction and a dangerous situation. Over the past 17 years, B.R.A.K.E.S. has expanded its reach, training over 150,000 individuals nationwide. The acronym B.R.A.K.E.S., which stands for "Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe," embodies the program's core mission of promoting safe driving practices. While the current training session is fully booked, interested families can join the waitlist and explore future opportunities on the program's website.

Doug Herbert emphasizes the importance of keeping everyone safe on the road and encourages families to engage with the program for valuable driving insights. As the B.R.A.K.E.S. program continues to make a positive impact on young drivers across the country, it remains dedicated to preventing accidents and promoting responsible driving habits.
