Delta Center Transformation: Enhancing the Fan Experience for Basketball and Hockey Fans

The Utah Mammoth will kick off their home game season on October 15 at the Delta Center, which will now be known as a dual-sport venue. The arena, home to the NBA's Utah Jazz, is undergoing a transformation to accommodate both basketball and hockey fans. This project is part of a multiseason effort to enhance the fan experience at the arena.

Ryan Smith, the chairman and CEO of Smith Entertainment Group, shared that this is just the first phase of the renovation project. The goal is to ensure that every seat in the arena offers an unobstructed view of the action, whether it's a basketball game or a hockey match. The renovations are designed to maintain the unique experience for fans of both sports.

Originally opened in 1991, the Delta Center was primarily home to the Utah Jazz until the approval of an NHL franchise in Utah in 2024. The new team, owned by Smith Entertainment Group, played its inaugural season at the Delta Center. However, the arena was not designed for hockey, leading to obstructed views for many fans. The ongoing renovations aim to address this issue and provide an optimal viewing experience for all attendees.

One of the key changes made to the arena was raising the floor by two feet. This adjustment allowed for improved sightlines for every seat in the arena, ensuring that fans have a clear view of the action on the court or ice. To accommodate both basketball and hockey games, a triple-scissor lift riser system was installed in the lower bowl. This innovative system, built by StageRight specifically for the Delta Center, offers seating flexibility for both NBA and NHL games.

The renovations at the Delta Center are a significant step towards creating a venue that caters to the needs of both NBA and NHL fans. With improved sightlines and seating flexibility, the arena aims to provide an enhanced experience for all attendees. The ongoing transformation of the Delta Center into a dual-sport venue reflects the commitment to creating a world-class sports and entertainment destination in Salt Lake City.
