Former New Jersey Teacher Admits to Sexual Assault of Teenage Students: Case Details and Sentencing

A former New Jersey teacher, Julie Rizzitello, admitted to sexually assaulting two teenage students over several years starting in 2017. Rizzitello, a former English teacher at Wall Township High School, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree sexual assault. Prosecutors plan to seek a 10-year prison sentence and mandatory registration as a sex offender for her actions in three different New Jersey townships.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office stated that Rizzitello's actions were a betrayal of trust to the victims and the school community. Wall Township Police Chief Sean O'Halloran praised the courage of those who came forward and the efforts of law enforcement in bringing the case to justice. Protecting youth is a top priority for the authorities.
Rizzitello was arrested in the summer of 2024 after engaging in multiple sexual encounters with an 18-year-old student between April and June of that year. The incidents occurred in the victim's car, and Rizzitello sent nude photos to the teen. She also had sexual messages with the student and met up in various townships. Following her arrest, she was accused of having sex with another student multiple times between 2017 and 2018.
The disgraced teacher, who resigned shortly before her arrest, taught ninth-grade English and SAT prep at Wall High School. She had been employed by Wall Township Public Schools since 2013 and had a salary of $62,000. Rizzitello faces potential lifetime parole supervision and may be prohibited from holding public office in addition to a prison sentence.
Rizzitello's sentencing is scheduled for January 9, 2026. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding students and maintaining trust within the school community.
