Marc by Sofia: A Collaborative Journey at the Venice Film Festival

Sofia Coppola and Marc Jacobs, long-time friends, unveiled their collaborative project, "Marc by Sofia," at the Venice Film Festival. Coppola expressed initial hesitation about taking on the project but was ultimately drawn to the idea of exploring Jacobs' extensive body of work. The documentary was created in a personal and homemade style reminiscent of Coppola's early filmmaking days with her brother.
Jacobs, who has known Coppola since the early '90s, praised her unique approach to the documentary, describing it as organic and natural. The film delves into candid topics such as drugs, plastic surgery, and Jacobs' decision to leave New York, reflecting his commitment to honesty and openness.
Coppola emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between personal storytelling and audience engagement in the documentary. She wanted viewers to feel included and connected to the narrative without it becoming an exclusive inside joke.
Despite her passion for the fashion industry and the positive reception from a younger audience, Coppola stated that she does not have plans to pursue more documentary projects in the future. However, she acknowledged the enjoyable and stimulating nature of the filmmaking experience.
The Venice Film Festival 2025, where "Marc by Sofia" premiered, is set to run from August 27 to September 6.
