Unveiling the Truth: Tennessee Sheriff Buford Pusser's Alleged Involvement in His Wife's Murder

Tennessee Sheriff Buford Pusser, known for his role in the movie "Walking Tall," is now facing accusations of being involved in his wife's murder. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation conducted a cold case review and found probable cause that Pusser staged his wife's murder in 1967. Prosecutors stated that if he were alive today, they would present an indictment for the murder of his wife, Pauline Mullins Pusser.
The investigation also revealed signs of domestic violence against Pauline. The case had been closed for nearly six decades, with the public believing that the couple was ambushed while responding to a disturbance. However, new evidence has emerged, leading to a reexamination of the case.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reopened Pauline's case in 2022 during a cold case sweep. Agents discovered inconsistencies between Buford's account and the physical evidence, prompting them to exhume Pauline's body for a new autopsy. The probe revealed that Pauline was shot outside the car and placed inside to fit Buford's narrative, contradicting his original story.
Dr. Michael Revelle, an emergency medicine physician and medical examiner, found that the cranial trauma sustained by Pauline did not match the crime scene photographs. Additionally, evidence of previous abuse, including a healed broken nose, indicated a violent marriage that Buford had concealed from the public.
Pauline's brother, Griffon Mullins, expressed relief after the investigation update, highlighting Pauline's kind and caring nature. He mentioned that there were signs of trouble in her marriage, but she kept her problems to herself. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation plans to release the entire case file, exceeding 1,000 pages, to the public for transparency and closure.
District Attorney Mark Davidson emphasized the importance of seeking justice and truth for Pauline and her family, stating that the case is not about tarnishing a legend but about honoring the victim and ensuring that the truth is revealed. Despite the passage of 58 years, the pursuit of justice for Pauline remains a priority.
