John Lennon Tribute Mural Unveiled at Sgt Peppers Apartments on Mathew Street
A vibrant mural paying tribute to John Lennon has been unveiled on the front entrance of Sgt Peppers apartments in Mathew Street. The artwork, created by artist Danny O’Connor of DOC ART, features a colorful depiction of the iconic Beatle's face. The mural, located opposite Sgt Peppers bar, requires planning permission as it significantly alters the appearance of the building. An application has been submitted on behalf of JSM freehold to seek approval for the artwork to remain on the entrance in the long term. The design and access statement for the mural highlights its intention to complement the existing street scene without negatively impacting the area's identity.
This new mural joins other tributes to John Lennon in the area, such as a sculpture of the ex-Beatle near the Cavern Club that has been in place for nearly three decades.
