’80s Rock: The Wildest Decade in Music Exhibit at GRAMMY Museum Mississippi

The 1980s were a vibrant era for popular music, with a diverse range of genres captivating audiences. Among these genres, metal music, particularly hair metal and glam metal, stood out as defining sounds of the decade. The GRAMMY Museum Mississippi is now showcasing an exhibit titled ’80s Rock: The Wildest Decade in Music, which delves into the reasons behind the popularity of these genres during that time and the enduring appeal of the bands that played them. A special conversation with members of Twisted Sister will kick off the exhibit on Sept. 25, followed by the official opening on Sept. 26.
The exhibit features a collection of artifacts from the era, offering fans a glimpse into the world of ’80s rock. Visitors can marvel at Mötley Crüe’s drum kit, an Ozzy Osbourne stage costume, a bass guitar from Def Leppard, autographed guitars and memorabilia from Poison, a guitar played by Ratt, a smashed-up bass and an Appetite for Destruction lithograph from Guns N’ Roses, a pink bodice worn by Heart‘s Nancy Wilson, a drumhead from Warrant, and a guitar and stage outfit from Lita Ford. Additionally, the exhibit includes photos from the era, allowing fans to immerse themselves in the nostalgia of the time.
One of the highlights of the exhibit is a replica of the iconic Whisky a Go Go club in LA, where fans can have their photo taken, capturing the essence of the Sunset Strip scene that was synonymous with hair metal. The exhibit promises to be a journey back in time to the wildest decade in music, celebrating the music, fashion, and culture that defined the 1980s.
