Rapper Lil Nas X Released on Bail After Pleading Not Guilty to Felony Charges in Los Angeles
Lil Nas X, known for his hit song "Old Town Road," has been released on bail after pleading not guilty to felony charges in Los Angeles. The 26-year-old rapper, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was released from jail in the San Fernando Valley after posting bond. He faced charges of battery on a police officer and resisting an executive officer, to which he pleaded not guilty. The judge set his bail at $75,000 and mandated attendance at Narcotics Anonymous meetings.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office emphasized the seriousness of assaulting law enforcement officers, stating that such actions pose a threat to public safety. A preliminary hearing for Lil Nas X is scheduled for September 15. The rapper's arrest stemmed from an incident where he allegedly assaulted officers while being taken into custody. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
Despite initial reports suggesting drug use during the incident, Lil Nas X's attorney denied these claims in court, describing the episode as an anomaly for the artist. With multiple Grammy nominations and wins under his belt, Lil Nas X rose to fame with "Old Town Road" in 2018 and released his debut album, "Montero," in 2021. His upcoming projects include an EP and a second studio album, "Dreamboy," slated for release later this year.
