From Player to Coach: Brianna Decker's Journey with the Minnesota Frost

Brianna Decker faced the end of her hockey playing career at 30 due to a severe leg injury at the 2022 Beijing Winter Games. However, she found solace in her passion for coaching, having already spent time as an assistant coach with USA Hockey and at Shattuck-St. Mary’s prep school. Now, she is taking her coaching career to the next level by joining the Minnesota Frost as an assistant coach under head coach Ken Klee, who led the team to two consecutive PWHL championships.

Decker's enthusiasm for coaching has remained strong even after retiring from playing. She is eager to make a positive impact on the players in the league and help them develop their skills. With her experience coaching at Shattuck and with Team USA's Under-18 squad, Decker brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the Frost. Her familiarity with some of her former U.S. teammates on the Frost roster, including Kendall Coyne Schofield and Kelly Pannek, will also help her transition smoothly into her new role.

Having had a successful playing career as a three-time Olympian and multiple-time world champion, Decker brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her coaching role. Her induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame further solidifies her credentials as a respected figure in the sport. Decker's coaching journey began with the U.S. U-18 squad in 2019, and she has found the transition from player to coach to be rewarding and fulfilling.

As Decker embarks on this new chapter in her coaching career with the Minnesota Frost, she is excited to work with both the younger and veteran players on the team. Her dedication to helping players improve and succeed on and off the ice will be a valuable asset to the Frost. With her impressive resume and commitment to the sport, Decker is poised to make a significant impact in her coaching role and continue her legacy in the world of women's hockey.
