Hedda: Nia DaCosta's Modern Take on a Classic Tale

The fall festival season is set to feature Nia DaCosta's latest film, "Hedda," a modern take on Henrik Ibsen's classic play "Hedda Gabler." The story follows a newly married woman who grapples with inner turmoil and manipulates a former lover into suicide to escape the frustrations of her loveless marriage. Tessa Thompson takes on the lead role of Hedda, supported by Imogen Poots, Tom Bateman, Nicholas Pinnock, and Nina Hoss. DaCosta, known for her work on "Little Woods" and recent projects like "Candyman" and "The Marvels," brings her unique perspective to this adaptation.
DaCosta's upcoming film, "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple," is part of a new trilogy that started with Danny Boyle's "28 Years Later." In a recent interview, Boyle discussed the thematic focus of the trilogy, with DaCosta highlighting the nature of family, evil, and redemption across the three films. "Hedda" is scheduled to premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival before its theatrical release on October 22 and global debut on Prime Video on October 29.
