Dr. Jim Richey, the president of Eastern Florida State College, recognized the community's love for sports, especially soccer, when he took on his role in 2012. To meet this demand, he prioritized adding varsity programs in men's and women's soccer, as well as men's and women's tennis and women's golf. The college now boasts 11 varsity programs, the most in the Florida College System Activities Association, with several teams achieving national rankings. The women's soccer team has even competed twice in the NJCAA national championship. Live broadcasts of games on WEFS-TV and webcasts on the college's sports website have expanded the reach of the Titan brand to sports fans across Central Florida and beyond.

Dr. Richey addressed this by constructing an athletic complex on the Melbourne campus, equipped with new or upgraded facilities for various sports, including soccer, tennis, softball, baseball, basketball, and volleyball. The Titan Soccer Complex has not only hosted prestigious tournaments but has also brought economic benefits to the local community through visitor spending. By providing top-notch facilities and a wide range of varsity sports, Eastern Florida State College has enhanced its appeal to students, not just athletes, creating a welcoming environment that encourages student engagement and success.
