National Television Awards 2022: Gary Lineker Nominated for Best TV Presenter After Departure from Match of the Day

Gary Lineker has been nominated for a National Television Award for the first time since 2017 following his departure from Match of the Day. Lineker left the long-running football show after 26 years at the end of the Premier League season in May. He announced his exit from the BBC due to controversies surrounding his social media use. Lineker is now in the running for the best TV presenter award, potentially breaking Ant and Dec's 23-year winning streak at the upcoming ceremony in September.
Netflix's hit series "Adolescence" has received three nominations at the National Television Awards. The on-screen father and son duo, Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper, are competing against each other for the best drama performance award. "Adolescence" is also a strong contender for the best new drama category after becoming a national sensation earlier this year.
The highly anticipated finale of "Gavin and Stacey," which drew over 20 million viewers during Christmas, is a frontrunner in the comedy category at the National Television Awards. Michael McIntyre and Stacey Solomon have both received three nominations each. Solomon's shows "Sort Your Life Out" and "Stacey & Joe" are both in the running for the best factual entertainment show award.
The winners of the National Television Awards will be decided by public vote and will be announced on 10 September. The categories include reality competition, new drama, quiz show, authored documentary, returning drama, TV presenter, factual entertainment, drama performance, the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award, serial drama, serial drama performance, comedy, daytime, and talent show.
