Empowering Girls in Hockey: Tim Hortons, Mattel, and PWHL Team Up to Support the Grindstone Award Foundation

A foundation based in Kelowna is set to benefit from a collaboration between Mattel, Tim Hortons, and the Professional Women’s Hockey League. Tim Hortons has launched a promotion featuring Barbie dolls inspired by PWHL stars Sarah Nurse and Marie-Philip Poulin, with the aim of encouraging more girls to participate in hockey. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these dolls will support the Grindstone Award Foundation, which was established in Kelowna in 2014 to assist girls who wish to play hockey but face financial barriers. The Grindstone Foundation will receive $5 from each doll sold through Tim Hortons, while the PWHL will donate $5 from every sale made through its online store.
"We're incredibly thankful to Tim Hortons and the PWHL for their generous support and for partnering with Mattel to promote the growth of girls' hockey throughout Canada," stated Danielle Bell, president of the Grindstone Award Foundation. "As a national charity, we are proud to collaborate with organizations that advocate for gender equality in sports and recognize the positive impact of hockey on girls' confidence, resilience, and leadership development. This partnership will enable more girls to access the sport and explore the opportunities provided by Grindstone."
