South Carolina Gubernatorial Candidate William 'Mullins' McLeod's Arrest and Controversial Behavior: A Closer Look
A Democratic candidate in the South Carolina gubernatorial race, William "Mullins" McLeod, was captured on bodycam footage going on a profanity-filled rant during an arrest in May. The footage shows McLeod, an injury attorney, semi-naked and sweating, making threats toward public officials while calling himself "Superman" and "God."
McLeod was charged with disorderly conduct by the Charleston Police Department after the incident on May 14. The video shows him in only underwear and shoes during the arrest. The South Carolina Democratic Party has called on him to drop out of the race following the release of the footage.
In the video, McLeod rambles about class-action lawsuits and refuses to provide his name to the officer. He goes on to call himself "Superman" and "God," expressing indifference to what he is called. McLeod also makes threats towards several South Carolina politicians, including Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson and Rep. Nancy Mace.
During the arrest, McLeod refused to get out of the patrol car at the jail, insisting he would sleep in the back seat. Police noted that his behavior, including bloodshot eyes and profuse sweating, indicated possible influence of a stimulant narcotic. McLeod's lawyer attributed his erratic behavior to a mental health episode and exhaustion.
Despite the incident, McLeod has stated that he will not withdraw from the gubernatorial race. The South Carolina Democratic Party has urged him to reconsider his candidacy, emphasizing the need for him to focus on his mental and emotional well-being. McLeod, known for founding the McLeod Law Group in Charleston, is scheduled to address the incident at a press conference.
