Peruvian Migrant Detained in D.C. After Threatening Self-Harm with Butcher Knife

A migrant from Peru was detained in Washington, D.C. by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents after he threatened to harm himself with a butcher knife. The man, identified as Jimmy Anderson Ayala Mayuri, was stopped by federal officers while driving his food truck in the nation's capital.

ICE reported that the man brandished a large butcher knife and indicated that he intended to harm himself when confronted by officers on National Park Service property in D.C. He briefly barricaded himself in the truck before being apprehended by authorities.

The individual will remain in custody until a decision is made regarding his deportation. This incident occurred amidst President Donald Trump's efforts to increase federal law enforcement presence in Washington to combat crime, despite the city's mayor stating that crime rates were already decreasing.

As part of the federal intervention in D.C., the National Guard will be deployed, and the U.S. Justice Department will assume control of the city's police department. The arrest of the Peruvian migrant aligns with the Trump administration's ongoing mass deportation policies targeting migrants in various cities nationwide.
