Joe Perry Project: Keeping the Aerosmith Spirit Alive

The future of Aerosmith is uncertain due to Steven Tyler's injured larynx, but guitarist Joe Perry is keeping the band's music alive with a new iteration of the Joe Perry Project. The band, featuring Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford, Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, and Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo, kicked off their tour in Tampa, Florida. The setlist includes Aerosmith classics, Black Crowes songs, and Stone Temple Pilots hits, showcasing a mix of rock genres.

The band's rendition of "Interstate Love Song" gives each member a chance to shine, with a slow, bluesy take on the song. While the Aerosmith tunes stick to the original arrangements, the band adds their own flair to the performance. The tour initially included STP drummer Eric Kretz, but he was replaced by Jason Sutter due to a family emergency. The band is completed by touring Aerosmith keyboardist Buck Johnson.

With only ten shows scheduled for the Joe Perry Project, the band's future remains uncertain. Robinson will return to the Black Crowes, and DeLeo has his own Stone Temple Pilots commitments. Aerosmith has been inactive since Tyler's injury, but there is hope for a possible return in some form. Perry expressed doubts about a full Aerosmith tour but hinted at a potential farewell concert to end the band on a positive note.

While an Aerosmith tour or Las Vegas residency seems unlikely, Perry remains open to the idea of a final concert. The Joe Perry Project offers fans a taste of the Aerosmith experience with a setlist that includes classic hits and fan favorites. The band's performance showcases their musical talents and pays homage to the iconic rock band's legacy.
